8 Reasons Why

If you’ve been on the fence about volunteering at a YWAM location (yet you can’t seem to get the idea off your mind) it may be time to consider some of the wonderful reasons why volunteering with YWAM may be right for you.

Explore opportunities before you make a staff commitment

AfterDTS gives you the flexibility to experience the many service opportunities available in YWAM before you make a staff commitment.

Connect with others

Meeting, working with and serving people who are different from you culturally but who share your passion for knowing God and making Him known can be a life-changing experience. You will grow in appreciating the perspective of others and be able to forge lifelong friendships.

Learn a new language

Depending on where you choose to volunteer you may quite likely be exposed to a new language, and research has proven that learning a new language is a great way to challenge your brain and improve your overall capacity for acquiring new knowledge.

Learn new skills

Volunteers often remark that they come away with skills they never thought they could master. Maybe you’ll learn to cook, swing a hammer or paint. The possibilities are endless!

Improve your resume

Nothing says you’re a conscientious and socially aware human being like a volunteering experience.  A meaningful experience that changes you for the better while also improving your employment prospects is priceless.

Support a cause you believe in

It is always a good idea to choose a volunteering opportunity that aligns with your personal values and beliefs. That conviction will make volunteering even more worthwhile for you, and in the end, you will feel like you’ve truly made a difference.

Enjoy new food

During your DTS outreach, you loved living in a new location that had a different culture and different types of food. Volunteering is a great way to discover more types of food in a particular culture and is a great opportunity to experience something new.

Have fun

While volunteering is important for all the good it does for others and the way it changes you for the better, it is very important to have fun throughout the process. The best volunteering experiences are those you enjoy and truly feel better for having participated in.
